World Encephalitis 2019 Observed at MCVR Manipal

World Encephalitis Day on February 22 is a global awareness day where individuals and families affected by encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) come together to shine a light on the condition. The sixth annual World Encephalitis Day is led by the Encephalitis Society and will celebrate and honour the millions of people affected by encephalitis across the world.

Majority of people have little knowledge of encephalitis. This is something we MUST change to achieve our vision of a world which is aware of encephalitis, its consequences and the support available. The World Encephalitis Day was founded by The Encephalitis Society in 2014. Every year the day is held on the 22nd of February and has reached over a million people in 5 years.

This year the Encephalitis society had set a challenge of walking 222,000,000 steps to 25 locations around the world through the application BrainWalk. This application helped to raise awareness along with and connecting people across the globe. Last year 40.5 million people across the world were the part of World Encephalitis day campaign.

The MCVR team, was a part of this campaign to raise awareness about encephalitis day. Globally we were ranked at 4th position with over 9 million steps.
