Development of an App for Guiding Rabies Prophylaxis among Health Care Professionals in India

Manipal Centre for Virus Research (MCVR) with financial support from MAHE has developed an app for guiding rabies prophylaxis among health care professionals. Even though, clinicians are well aware of rabies, owing to busy schedules they are not getting updated with current guidelines.

India is second in position after China in terms of having the highest number of mobile phone users surpassing the United States. In this era of mobile journalism mobile phones have replaced all other means of mass communication. This app was developed to guide the professionals through updated recommendations ensuring appropriate management of bite wound, vaccination schedule, the cost of vaccines and answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs).

The app designed by MCVR is user-friendly, technically less demanding, with no need of internet facility. This was designed with HTML 5 (Hypertext Markup Language) for presentation on the World Wide Web and was coined the name of RabiApp. This hybrid mobile app for guiding healthcare professionals was observed to be reliable and is ready for Beta testing of the target population at real-time environment.
